Great product--worth the extra $$ April 2, 2006 Cory (TX) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I also didn't think a video monitor would be necessary, but my husband--a gadget guy--wanted one, so we 1st got the Sight & Sound Assurance by Safety 1st. The monitor on the Safety 1st was always B&W and pretty grainy, also the monitor is very bulky and always has to be plugged in. As soon as we plugged in this Summer Infant monitor we were both amazed at the picture quality. It is very clear even at night and you can adjust the brightness of the picture to your liking. It picks up sound extremely well too. Also--for those of you with a wireless network we have had no problems. Love that you can see the video with volume all the way down and that the video turns off after a few seconds (button on top turns it back on instantly) ONLY NEGATIVE--a little bit of background static--my husband didn't notice it. (BTW--someone was complaining about the picture being B & W at night--EVERY monitor system would be B & W at night, because there is NO such thing as color in the absence of light!)
This is THE monitor! May 25, 2006 Tiana (Texas) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I always read these reviews before making a purchase. They always help me make the best choice but I have never written one myself. This warrants a rating in my opinion. And here is why: I orginally had the Safety First Video Monitor but I did not like it at all. When I would be on the phone, cell phone or cordless, the interferance was so bad that I could see nothing but static on the screen. I use the time when my son naps to catch up on phone calls. There is NO interferance with this monitor. The Safety First system had a very large monitor. It was not portable and gave off too much light at night. This is handheld and has great range. PLUS, it has a recharable battery. Now, I don't know about all of you, but to me, this feature is profoundly attractive considering between the swing, bouncer and all the other gadgets and guizmos, I should buy stock in Energizer. I know some mentioned that the monitor was a bit small, and this is true. However, I find that it is not a problem for me at all and the picture quality is great. I can see my little man in his crib and tell if the noise he is making is just him stirring in his sleep or if he truly needs me. I can also hear him breathing over the monitor. Which puts me at ease. Also, some mentioned that the monitor would get a bit of static from time to time but if you repositioned the handheld unit, it would cease. I have encountered this, but it is so easily remedied that it is not even an issue for me. I purchased the Buyer Protection Plan from Babies R Us which cost me $24.99 and covers the unit for one year. If anything happens to it I will be sent a check for $160.00. $25 insurance for a fairly pricey item seemed a good investment for me. If you are a new parent, I highly recommend this item. I don't know that my son and I would do as well if I couldn't actually see him while he was sleeping without having to go in his room. (Picture actually seeing your baby's chest rising and falling and knowing he his breathing.) This item is a bit expenisive, but I truly believe it is worth every penny. I hope this helps!
Hesitated at the price, but turns out it's one of my best baby purchases July 20, 2006 M. C. Porterfield (Sonoma County, CA USA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have a particularly wiggly baby who has hummed and talked to himself in his sleep since birth. Instead of buying a regular sound monitor, I looked into video monitors so I didn't have to check on him every time he made noises and wiggled around. The first day I used it, I found it to be worth its weight in gold because of the worry-free spare time it gave me. Product info says it may interfere with some cordless phones etc, but you can either switch the channel on the monitor, or you can switch the channel on your phone. It also said it might produce feedback if the handheld monitor is situated too near the camera, but I can place them next to each other without any feedback at all. I use it cordlessly a lot during the day, sometimes for a few hours at a stretch, and I've never had the battery run out on me. When it is being used cordlessly, the video shuts itself off automatically after a few mins (the sound and the sound-light indicator do not shut off) and you can just hit the button on top to check your baby periodically. I simply plug it back in when my little one wakes up and it charges itself up for next time. Other reviews I've seen state the color on the monitor is not good quality, and yes sometimes it's not great, but I've never worried about that. This little unit does its job. I've had the unit for four months now, daily use, dropped it pretty badly once, with no prob so far. Love it.
Can't believe I went so long without one November 3, 2005 K. Jasman (Katy, Texas United States) 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
I was a little skeptical about a video monitor but my son was making so much noise upstairs that I needed to know what was going on without going in his room and risk waking him up if he wasn't already. I absolutely LOVE this! I don't know how I made is without one for so long. I love that you can hear and see the baby. We have it positioned so we can see the whole crib and the picture is great. The color is not great but you can see what you need. The night vision works perfect, in fact I think I can see him better at night than during the day. We've had no problems with the reception or interference. In fact, there is less interference with this one than the audio monitor we had before. This an expensive investment but I think it is worth the money to be able to see your baby.
